Anna Atkins – Conferva Implexa

This cyanotype of a thin strain of algae, created between 1843-1853, is one of many works created by pioneering photographer and botanist Anna Atkins. She is widely regarded as the first person to publish a book using photographs as illustrations, and some sources claim she was the first ever woman to create a photo.
