American printmaker George Elbert Burr, almost entirely self-taught, was renowned for his atmospheric etchings and drypoints that capture the stillness of the American West. His artistic life took root in his mother’s kitchen with experiments using scraps of zinc from her stove-spark pan.

Created during the Great Depression, New Moon and Evening Star reflects a turn toward quiet, meditative landscapes that offered calm and escapism through art. In this archival museum reproduction, a moon and single star hover above a hushed desert horizon rendered in gentle black aquatint tones. This timeless vintage landscape art print evokes Burr’s mastery of mood and light—an ideal piece for serene interiors or gallery wall decor.
